The “Never-Drying” Beach Towel Lie

“Just hang it over the deck railing! It’ll be dry by morning!”

This is the greatest lie ever told on the coast. You carefully drape your wet beach towel across the railing at 4:00 PM, fully expecting the Texas sun to bake it crisp for tomorrow’s beach trip. You go out the next morning at 8:00 AM, touch the towel, and realize it is somehow wetter than when you hung it up.

Coastal physics don’t play by normal rules. Down here, night air doesn’t dry fabric; it marinates it in a dense, heavy soup of salt water and morning dew. Instead of a fresh, fluffy towel, you now have a heavy, ice-cold, damp rag that smells faintly of mild seawater and regret. You end up throwing it in the dryer anyway, wondering why you even bothered with the railing in the first place.
