Music at the beach is great. A little classic rock or country floating on the salt breeze goes hand-in-hand with a cold drink. The problem arises when the group fifty feet to your left is blasting 90s gangsta rap, the group to your right is playing high-tempo techno, and the family directly behind you is listening to a true-crime podcast at maximum volume.

Suddenly, the soothing sounds of nature are replaced by a chaotic, auditory blender of competing basslines. It turns the shoreline into a battleground of overlapping frequencies where no one wins, and everyone leaves with a headache. Whatever happened to headphones? Or better yet, just turning the volume down enough so that you can hear your music, but your neighbors don’t have to listen to your questionable playlist?
