As the sun broke over the Texas coast yesterday morning, members of the community gathered at the Port Bolivar Volunteer Fire Department to uphold a solemn annual tradition. The department’s Memorial Day flag-raising ceremony once again served as a powerful reminder of the true cost of American liberty, honoring the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation.

Following a strict and time-honored military protocol, the ceremony was led by Training Officer George King. Under his direction, the American flag was hoisted precisely at sunrise. Against this backdrop, the names of local fallen heroes were read aloud, ensuring that their legacies are never forgotten by the community they died to protect.

Adding spiritual weight to the morning’s observations, Pastor Tony addressed those in attendance with an elegant reminder of why communities across the country pause on this specific day.
“Freedom is not free,” Pastor Tony reminded the crowd. “People who preceded us have given their lives so that you and I might live to enjoy the blessings and benefits of living in a country that is at the very, very top of all the nations that have ever been.”
The annual ceremony remains a cornerstone event for Port Bolivar, bringing together first responders, veterans, and local families.
