The Bolivar Peninsula Lighthouse Krewe Mardi Gras Parade brought a wave of color, music, and celebration to the peninsula under bright, sunny skies. With over 80 floats of all shapes and sizes lining up early in the morning, the stage was set for a day of festive fun and community spirit.
The excitement began as early as 8:00 a.m., when floats started arriving at the staging area. From creatively decorated golf carts to elaborately designed large floats, participants showcased their ingenuity and enthusiasm for the annual tradition. Judges walked along the lineup, carefully evaluating each entry to select winners in the four categories: golf carts, vehicles, small floats, and large floats. The anticipation built as the crowd awaited the announcement of the winners, adding to the lively atmosphere.
At 11:30 a.m., the Lighthouse Krewe led the parade onto the highway, kicking off the 4-mile journey to Gregory Park. Cheering fans of all ages lined both sides of the highway, their excitement palpable as they reached out to catch beads, trinkets, and other goodies tossed from the passing floats. Children and adults alike waved and cheered, their faces lit up with joy as the procession rolled by.
The parade was a true celebration of community and creativity, with participants and spectators alike coming together to enjoy the festivities. From the dazzling floats to the enthusiastic crowd, the event was a testament to the spirit of Mardi Gras and the close-knit community of Bolivar Peninsula.
As the last float made its way to Gregory Park, the day concluded on a high note, leaving everyone with memories of a festive and fun-filled celebration. March 4, 2025 at 7:02 amI have had the pleasure of enjoying the Mardi Gras parade for many years and it gets bigger and better every year! I would love to see some key parade “essentials” added in the future such as a Color Guard paying respect to those serving in the armed forces, Marching band/drill team, and a team of horses. Keep up the good work!
