I hope all you Dads out there had a wonderful Father’s Day. I guess we’re going to stretch out PawPaw’s Father’s Day, seeing as how all his kids are flitting about the country. Leigh went to Denver and coincidentally, Matthew and family started their Colorado vacay in Breckenridge. Kel and fam were busy at baseball games, and Michael took off for California on Sunday evening – business. Next weekend, the “College Girl” has orientation, so she and the parents will be out of town for that.
Merry graduated from Puppy Obedience training. It was a 6-week course. Wow, did she learn a lot! She and PawPaw went for a long walk this afternoon while I was at work. She didn’t tug on the leash at all until she saw the beach. I’m not going there Buddy, she told PawPaw in no uncertain terms. We’ve come to the realization that The Gulf of America is going to just take a back seat until she’s good and ready. I figure that when the crowds die down again and we’re able to just get out there with her in our chairs and let her have free reign she’ll certainly love it. What dog doesn’t??
We’ve had a bit of a struggle getting her used to our dinner-eating schedule/method. You see, we like to eat at the coffee table rather than the dining table. I mean, it’s just the two of us and we usually eat when Wheel of Fortune comes on so we’re right there by the TV set. Last night, we managed to get her to lie in “place” (on her bed) and “stay” for our entire meal. She got up once, but we told her “place” again and she stayed obediently. Another milestone accomplished.

We had a break in the rainstorm on Saturday, so she went out in the yard with me to help me plant some flowers. Oh, my goodness, she loved the digging, We had to wash her down before we could come back upstairs. I guess that wasn’t such a great idea on my part.
Another thing we’ve noticed is her fear of lightning and thunder has diminished. I guess it’s been raining a lot since she’s been at Summer Camp, so she’s gotten used to it. We also noticed she didn’t flinch at all the fireworks going off this weekend. Maezy, our last Golden hated rainstorms, but didn’t mind fireworks.
Nevertheless, we’re enjoying having her back with us and we’re all learning a great deal. She was so excited to see all her toys again. She went through each of her baskets and methodically pulled everything out one by one. They’re scattered all over the house now, just as they should be. We got a new Cindy, previous Cindy went off to camp with Merry, she didn’t come back. We figure somebody else liked her too much. You know how possessions get lost at camp.

I had to go to The Big Store last evening for something necessary. While I was there, I thought I’d see if there was any Blue Bell Pralines and Cream. I felt like I needed some, the scales were kind to me that morning, so I decided to reward myself. No pints, but there was a half-gallon, What the heck, we deserved a little treat.
As I mentioned before, it’s the Little Pleasures in life that make a difference.
