Each May during Teacher Appreciation Week, a group of volunteers headed up by the Bay Vue Methodist Women have been providing the staff at Crenshaw School a Teacher’s Appreciation Luncheon. Along with the BVMW, other church members and members of the Lazy Ladies Aerobics class, these fine folks sign up to bring a tableful of food ranging from simple appetizers to mouthwatering desserts. All of the items were homemade, to lovingly be presented for the staff’s enjoyment. Last year the Methodist Women began including High Island School in this endeavor and this year Bay Vue Methodist Women donated $300 to St. Matthews Methodist Church to help fund the luncheon for High Island. Arriving at 10:30 AM on Thursday, May 7, 2026, Sherry Morgan, Jane Loose, Vicky Norris and Elinor Tinsley from Bay Vue and Marie Butler and Mary Hulsey from the Lazy Ladies Aerobics group set up the spread as quickly as possible as we already had staff waiting at the door for lunch.

Dishes included jambalaya, roasted pork tenderloin, chicken salad and ham sandwiches, baked beans, bacon wrapped smokies, deviled eggs and more. Desserts were community famous homemade cookies, brownies and one of Elaine Rollfing’s famous Italian Creme cakes. The teachers look forward to some of the same items each year and when they tell us that this is their favorite day of the year, it really fills the volunteer’s hearts and makes them happy to serve. Actually, it is probably in the top three of the staff’s favorite days of the year right along with the first day of Winter Break and the last day of school. Bay Vue Methodist Church appreciates all that these two schools do for our children and are happy to show our appreciation by providing them some comfort foods. Bay Vue Methodist Women also provide staff shacks and two $25 gift cards each month to both of the schools, just another way to show how much they mean to the church and to the community.
