End of Summer

That’s my kind of celebration! Leave it to those Canal People to throw a shebang of a celebration. We’re not Canal People, but thanks to all our good friends, we’re always included. This year, we made Pepper Poppers. My husband says we always bring them to the End of Summer party, but I’ll have to disagree. I think this was our first time. I already had two cans of whole jalapeños, but then I saw them at The Big Store (gotta love The Big Store), the same exact kind, so I bought another can. And another package of turkey bacon and another block of cream cheese. You never know if you’ll have enough. I managed to get the jalapeños all sliced and un-seeded while my husband-helper was at the golf tournament. When he got home, we set up shop so to speak and began putting poppers together with toothpicks. As it turned out, while we were putting the poppers together, I thought we’d run out of turkey bacon, but we made it with two slices to spare. I think we had over fifty, only brought about 5 back home with us.

The amount of food was outrageous, as usual. The dessert table was piled high with all sorts of goodies. The master of all masters, Elaine, made one of her 4-layer carrot cakes. Oh, my goodness! And someone made pralines (almost as good as Elinor’s). I didn’t say that …

I tried to get Vicky to come, but I made the mistake of loaning her The Calamity Club. She claimed she needed to rest, but it was the book’s fault, she couldn’t put it down. This is one of the most enjoyable stories by the author of The Help. If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it! Don’t let the size scare you. It’s over 600 pages long. Vicky was on page 350 after only a couple of days! I loved it so much, I have it on Audible (and I got Ear Thingy’s for my birthday from the kids). I’ll finish Theo of Golden first, then watch out!

Back to the party … It was a fair number of peeps, the tables were set up, the band was ready and plenty of nice folks to mingle with. We sat at a round table with some of our besties. I told Sherry, “It’s amazing how we can pick right up where we left off maybe two months ago.” That’s what’s great about our friends. We get so wrapped up in our lives and families, and we’ll go for months without contact. Then, here comes a get-together, and we fall right back into place catching up.

The party was held at the Ezzell’s lovely abode on the intracoastal. Diana, such a wonderful host and her husband, David, is a champ! Get a load of this palm tree he and a friend constructed across the canal on Goat Island. It’s scheduled to light up every evening around 6pm.

Geez, if I could find a place on the bay side, I’d be leaving the busiest street in Crystal Beach in a heartbeat!

Y’all stay safe, we’ll visit again next week.
