The skies over the Bolivar Peninsula may have been overcast on Saturday morning, but the excitement was high for the 5th Annual Dabney Harrison Memorial Golf Tournament. Hosted by Seaside Lumber, this year’s event brought out eleven 4-golfer teams to The Ranch in Crystal Beach for a day of high-stakes competition, good food, and unforgettable drama on the course.
With $1,000 in first-place prize money on the line—and a record-breaking Calcutta auction the night before—there was a lot more than just bragging rights at stake.

High Winds and Hot Competition
The Gulf breeze played havoc with a few of the scorecards as the players drove, chipped, and putted their way around the course. To keep energy up, they were treated to a fully stocked beverage trailer and delicious BBQ sandwiches at the turn.
Despite the breezy conditions, the tournament saw some impressive shot-making:
- First Place: A powerhouse performance secured the top spot, with the winning team firing 12-under par to claim the grand prize.
- The Second Place Jam: Two teams finished deadlocked at 9-under par, forcing a sudden-death playoff that local golf fans will be talking about for years.
The 32-Shot Sudden Death Playoff
To break the tie for second place, both teams headed to the 100-yard mark on Hole #6 for a closest-to-the-pin shootout.
What followed was pure, nerve-wracking drama. All 8 golfers took a shot, but the stubborn wind kept everyone off the green. They went a second round, then a third—with identical results. It wasn’t until the fourth round and the 30th collective shot of the playoff that a ball finally found the dance floor. Then, two shots later, the final golfer landed one a little closer to settle the score. The crowd erupted, and cheers echoed across the course for the final, clutch shot.

A Heartfelt Thanks
Events like this are what make the Bolivar community so tight-knit and special. A huge thank you goes out to all the participants who brought their A-game, the hard-working volunteers who kept things running smoothly, and especially the incredibly generous sponsors for making this year’s tournament a record-breaking success.
We already can’t wait for year six!
