Across the Pond

It seems the weeks are zooming by. I love the weekends so much and I can’t help planning what I need to get, where I need to go. This Saturday, I awoke early and caught the 8:30 ferry. I had seen a new shop that opened on the Strand, Lost Girls Mercantile. I was way too early when I got off the ferry, but I drove down Strand to see where this shop was located. It’s in the old Henley building.

I had time to kill, so I drove to the other end of the island to my favorite car wash to knock that out first thing. The Traverse is squeaky clean for a while. Then off to WalMart. I was finding it difficult to concentrate because I wanted to take a look at Lost Girls so badly. But I managed to get what I needed at WalMart and proceeded on over to next stop, Kroger.  What a lovely store! I can’t help it, I keep thinking about what I read last year about how Kroger was more expensive than HEB and WalMart. This was around Thanksgiving time. There’s even an ad that comes on channel 11 around Wheel of Fortune time, this woman complaining about the high prices at Kroger. I was flabbergasted the first time I heard it. How did she get the time and the money to take out an ad like that?

So, by that time, I was ready to head back to downtown Galveston, all parking places were taken. Not being adept at parallel parking, I circled around and around to find a place I could just slip into. Not bad! I found a place only a block away to park. I was by myself of course, and I wasn’t used to walking around Galveston with someone to hold onto, but I managed to make my way to the shop. I was greeted by one of the co-owners, I think her name is Lisa. We chatted for a bit, I told her where I was from and that I’d read about the opening of her store on Facebook. She said, “Well thanks for stalking me and coming in.” I’m not sure what to think about that … I mean, why would she advertise on Facebook if she didn’t want people to come check it out?? It’s okay, I’ll get over it. So, I looked around; I hope I seemed interested … Okay, let’s face it, I came out empty-handed. Yep, let that be a first!

Headed back to the ferry, got shoved to the far right, but I ended up being one of the first off. All in all, it was a wonderful outing and I’m happy I visited the new venue. Next time, I hope to have more energy to go back to all my other favorites. That’s you Salty Mermaid and Gracie’s.

Oh, recently, a friend reached out to me about where we got Merry. I’m so excited to share our whole experience with her. I’ve sent her the breeder’s name, location and website and tons of pictures of Merry as a little bity hound pup. She was so cute (still is). This is Merry in the Hot Pink rick rack collar.

Golden Retriever puppies

I should probably warn her about getting a puppy at our age, but if I had to do it again, I’d get a puppy again anyway.

Until next week, y’all take care, enjoy Halloween and all this lovely weather we’re having.

This is why Fall is our favorite season!
