Wild Hog Chases High Island Woman on Morning Walk

A morning walk turned into a terrifying encounter for High Island resident Amee LeBlanc when a wild hog chased her down the street early Wednesday morning.

LeBlanc, who was out walking her black Labrador around 6:30 a.m., was only a block from home when a driver stopped to warn her that a wild hog was coming down the road. Before she had time to react, the car passed, and she saw the animal charging straight toward her.

Wearing only bedroom slippers, LeBlanc immediately turned and ran for home, pulling her dog along. The Labrador, unaware of the approaching danger, was initially unfazed but soon followed her lead. As she sprinted toward safety, she noticed a car in the parking lot of the Fire/EMS station across the street from her home.

A group of EMS medics happened to be outside during the incident, as they were preparing for a shift change. One medic, who was getting in his vehicle to head home, happened to see the dangerous situation occurring and quickly jumped into action. Using his vehicle, he forced the hog to veer away allowing LeBlanc to scramble safely into her home.

Meanwhile, two other medics joined the first responder in confronting the aggressive hog. Moments later, the animal charged at them, prompting the medic to fire, ultimately stopping the 200-pound hog before it could harm anyone else.

LeBlanc and her dog made it home safely, though she suffered a few scrapes and bruises from the fall. Shaken but unharmed, she later reflected on the incident, noting that her children and many neighbors frequently walk in the same area.

“We’ll always be watchful from now on,” LeBlanc said. “This could have been much worse.”

Wild hogs are known to be aggressive and unpredictable, especially in rural and semi-rural areas. While this encounter ended safely, the event serves as a reminder for residents to stay alert when walking outdoors, particularly in the early morning or evening hours.
