Labor Day Weekend was not what I expected. That is, it was BETTER than I expected. The crowds didn’t seem as dense, not rowdy at all from where I sat. The beach was beautiful, a little hot unless you were under a canopy. The breeze is a God-Send. The water was green, clean and clear.

We had the privilege of hosting our grandson, Michael, for his 16th Birthday along with 5 of his good friends. We had just enough room for all to sleep, 3 upstairs in the loft and 3 downstairs in one of the guest bedrooms. What nice boys! We already knew 3 of his friends, met two more. Oh Boy! Just as anticipated, they’re always hungry. Michael’s Mom and Dad brought plenty of snacks, I had a lot as well, combined, we had too much to eat most of the time. BBQ chicken, mac & cheese, corn on the cob and a huge salad. Yes, I said salad, can’t just have carbs, or can you??

Dannay’s was on the menu, of course, for breakfast Sunday morning. PawPaw fixed us adults some eggs, biscuits and bacon.
We spent most of the time Sunday out on the beach. I came home just before lunch to fix about 16 hot dogs, wrapped each in foil and brought them back to the beach along with condiments and a variety of chips. We had to summon the boys back from cruising (their favorite pastime) to eat lunch. I informed them they had to eat at least two each. NO PROBLEM!

Adults were exhausted Sunday night, I think it was 8:30 when I went to bed to read … Needless to say, I didn’t hear a peep the rest of the night. They were good boys, cruised until after midnight. Like I said, I had no idea. Gone are the days I worry about teenagers out in the evening “when are they going to be home?” I guess if their parents weren’t along, I’d have to be the one GPS’ing “where are they?”
Monday, they all left after having cinnamon rolls and the rest of the cookie cake. Pumped up on sugar, ready to blow and go another day. Me, by noon, I’d finished about 3 loads of wash, all those sheets and beach towels. No telling when the next round of guests will be. You can bet I’ll be excited and ready for more fun and games with the Grands.
After all, that’s what life is all about these days. We’ve earned the right to just sit back and marvel at what a wonderful family we have!
Looking forward to Fall and some cool weather. I saw my first hummingbird yesterday, so I ran inside to prepare my feeders for these welcome guests.
Happy Trails to you and yours until we chat again next week.
