The waves were high, the currents cruel,
That threw the Buccaneer off course,
A heavy, iron-hulled old tool;
Reduced to bowing to their force.
She ran aground on Crystal Beach,
And floundered in the breaking spray,
Just away from the ocean’s reach,
As tides and fortunes rolled away.
And in a twist of coastal fate,
She came to rest right in the view
Of a vacation home so great,
And Buccaneer was her name, too.
A high tide gave a final shove,
And pushed her deep onto the land,
While gray and heavy skies above
Watched her get buried in the sand.
For many days she sat stayed fast,
A shipwreck for the passing crowd,
Until a rainy Wednesday past,
Brought engines roaring, fierce and loud.
Under the Coast Guard’s watchful eye,
And state officials standing near,
The heavy diesel started nigh
To save the stranded Buccaneer.
The Cajun Navy joined the fray,
Teamed up with HeavyD’s brave crew—
Famous for saving any day
When there is heavy work to do.
The tracked excavators dug deep,
They pushed and pulled against the tide,
To wake the vessel from her sleep,
And shove her to the ocean side.
The metal groaned, the engines whined,
Until she slipped the sandy floor,
Leaving the beach and house behind,
To ride the rolling waves once more.
Now off to home for much-need care,
To fix the damage from the shoal,
Soon she’ll be back in open air,
Where tides and shrimp and waters roll.

That threw the Buccaneer off course

That Buccaneer was her name too

And state officials standing near

To wake the vessel from her sleep

To ride the rolling waves once more
