Port Bolivar residents and visitors now have a smoother and safer commute, as the new bridge on Loop 108 is officially open. Construction began in February 2024 to replace the aging structure, which had served the community for decades but had reached the end of its serviceable life.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) invested $2.5 million in the project to ensure the new bridge met modern safety and design standards. The new structure not only improves the flow of traffic but also enhances overall safety for drivers traveling along this key stretch of road.
Danny Perez, TXDOT Public Information Officer, emphasized the department’s commitment to improving infrastructure across the state. “Our goal is to address infrastructure that has certainly aged over the years but certainly has not become a safety issue. When we have funding available, we move forward on such important projects in communities.”
The completion of the bridge marks another step in ensuring reliable and safe transportation for the residents of Port Bolivar and visitors to the Bolivar Peninsula.
