Life is a Beach!

The 4th of July, hot times on the beach! Many hours spent on the beach this past weekend, I think we set a record! Oh, and the people watching was at it’s best!

Much to this pair of Grandparents’ delight, we had a full house this weekend. Our granddaughter surprised us by coming down on Wednesday, stayed two nights with us. Mommy and fur baby, Knight, came in on Thursday. We were a bit nervous about how Merry and Knight would get along; this was the first time these two cousins have met. They were like Peas and Carrots! Yes, siree! Knight taught Merry the technique of fetching the ball. Knight was a bit faster, but he would drop the ball for Merry, and she would bring it on in.

We wanted the two to frolic in the surf, but Merry was still reluctant to jump in even with another pup. It took Kelly and Michael to take her out, sit in the water and coax her in. Not far mind you, only up to her ankles, but she seemed to like it. Don’t get me wrong, this is a “water dog,” just not the Gulf yet. Her swimming pool, the hose and especially her water bowls are Game On, but not the beach!

The boys arrived on Friday, our 13-year-old, and 2 friends; and our 15-year-old with 3 friends. Seven boys, Holy Cow! PawPaw made sure the pool was clean, the baseball diamond spray-painted on the lawn and the volleyball court prepared, not to mention a new basketball net. When each set of boys weren’t cruisin’ or walking the beach, they would take time out to cool off in the pool or play a game or two.

Of course, we had breakfast, lunch and dinner prepared, along with a constant array of snacks and plenty of drinks! Let me tell you, Boys can put away some food!

The parents and grands were stationed on the beach, canopy and chairs set up, coolers within reach and a constant game of washers going on. We’d see the boys every once in a while, passing by. They acquired water guns at some point, and we would see them shooting water from golf cart to golf cart with other kids they met along the way.

We brought the dogs down several times. Not sure if they really wanted to be down there with us, they’re kind of spoiled with the A/C. We went through some stages where there was no breeze. Thank goodness for the shelter!

I’ll have to admit; I got a little sun, not remembering how intense it can get. I sure felt it when I showered. Ouch!

Our biggest weekend is over, summer is half-way through. Hope you all had an enjoyable and safe 4th of July!

Happy 250th Birthday America!
