We attended a wonderful gathering the other day, a little appreciation lunch for the Crab Fest Committee Captains. I think Mark designed it, he was the officiator and a fine one indeed. A sit-down lunch, about 10 tables, was held at a very nice conference room at Margaritaville. A handful of awards were given out. I’m not a Committee Lead, but if I were, my award would have gone to Donna (Goat Nanny) who manages the Silent Auction now. She’s handled this task solely for about two years. And, of course, my sidekick, Terrie, who is the highly technical member of our team. Without her, I wouldn’t have a clue how to handle the payments at the end of the auction. I report to both of these ladies, they have all the knowledge.
Can’t forget my brothers in law, Chris & Bill, two of the hardest working Vendor volunteers ever. These two guys know exactly where to put the vendors when they come through the vendor gate. If there’s a fire, they know how to put it out! Oh yeah, and Brother Bill stocks up on Gatorade every morning and waters, puts them in his cooler and rides around all three days handing out refreshments. These are the folks I would like to acknowledge! The Greatest!
I don’t know if I told y’all, but we got our baby back a little over a week ago. Our baby, Merry, that is. She’s the four-legged fuzzy one with grown up teeth now. While she was a Summer Camp, she lost all those sharp little razor things that used to tear into our old skin. She’s learned a lot. One thing we have to keep working on happens every evening when we sit down for dinner. You see, dinner at our house happens when Wheel of Fortune comes on, and we eat at the coffee table right in front of the TV. Merry is learning Place, Sit, Stay on her bed while we eat.

The other night, we had stuff on the table already, we filled our bowls with beef stew freshly made that afternoon. As we came back to the table, we noticed she was still lying in place looking so peaceful and busy. We felt so proud! Then, Oops, we discovered a piece of our cut-up sourdough bread was missing from the plate on the table. There she was, peacefully crunching away, totally absorbed in sourdough. It’s a work in progress, it just takes a lot of repetition …
