Maybe that’s the stage I’m in these days. July and especially August are what I consider the hottest days of summer! I probably won’t even venture out next month. Times have changed though lately, or perhaps my body has changed. Maybe it’s my office standing at 68 degrees. I’m constantly freezing. I wear my winter clothes, and I always have the heater on in my office. Sometimes, I have it right next to the printer pointing at my face.
I have spent a lot of time in my garden, weeding out dollar weed and nutgrass. I get in there with the water hose to really soften the soil so I can pull those dang weeds out easier. The sweet potato vines have taken over; it’s a great cover-up and filler.

My gardener, Mindi, saw it the other day when she was driving by, I guess, then I saw her up at The Big Store. She yelled out “Your garden looks fantastic!” I assured her I’d be calling her when it’s time for the sweet potato vine to be pulled, which will require a more thorough cleaning up, Mindi does such a great job!
The first time I went out there to clean up, I took Merry with me. Oh, what a mistake. With the hose and all the water and mud, it was a heyday for this puppy. We both had to be hosed down from all the mud and muck! From now on, Merry will stay up on the deck and just watch. She’s good at that too!
This goes for anything I plant in my veggie garden. Sorry Merry, I know you want to help. I managed to clean out the veggie gardens lately too. Not too crazy about the cucumbers we planted this year. One thing, they hide, they get away from you overnight, and they’re not real tasty, real seedy, fat and very pale in color. Planted two more tomatoes, some okra and seeds from the Pecos cantaloupe we find at Kroger.
Anyway, the best spot for Merry is in her pool. She’s a water dog after all, and she’s realized just how relaxing it is to lay down in the pool. We keep it full, so just about every time she goes down, she spies the pool and jumps in.

I do have a project I’ve planned for quite some time. I plan to make another covered cushion for the swing upstairs on the deck. When I began some time ago, the sewing machine out, ready to stitch up some stuff, I realized my sewing machine was a bit ailing. I don’t know if it’s because I can’t remember how to thread the darn thing or what. I know I have a problem threading the needle, I bought some more cheaters, strength 3. Oh my gosh! Anyway, in the process, I ended up taking the bobbin casing apart, couldn’t get it back together, so I got my daughter to take the machine to a fix-it guy in Alvin. $125 later, it’s back with me, sitting on the dining room table, just waiting for me to get motivated. I think about how I’m going to tackle this job all the time. I pretty much have figured it out, even the zipper and the piping. It’s going to happen one of these days, you’ll see!
How ‘bout that little rain we had all day Monday? Our grass is smiling!
