Last Friday, Crenshaw School came alive with excitement and gratitude as students, staff, and local service members gathered to celebrate Honoring Hometown Heroes Day—a special event organized by Principal Traci Camp and School Counselor Roz Faulhaber.
The day was designed to recognize and show appreciation for the men and women who work hard every day to keep our community safe, clean, and running smoothly. Representatives from a variety of local agencies and organizations attended, including the Constable’s Office, Galveston County Sheriff’s Department, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), Galveston Island Beach Patrol, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), all three local Volunteer Fire Departments, Entergy, Frontier Waste, and Keep Bolivar Beautiful.
Each group offered hands-on demonstrations that gave students a chance to see up close what these hometown heroes do every day. Kids lit up with excitement as they:
Sprayed water from a real fire hose
Tried on lineman’s electrical gloves
Sat in the front seat of a police car
Climbed behind the wheel of a fire truck
Hopped onto a lifeguard’s jet ski
Stepped inside the back of an ambulance
And much more!
The interactive experience gave students a memorable look at the vital roles each organization plays in our community’s well-being, safety, and daily operations.
To show appreciation, all of the hometown heroes were treated to a catered spaghetti lunch, a small token of gratitude for the big work they do.
It was a heartwarming day full of learning, laughter, and connection—reminding everyone that behind every uniform is a dedicated individual making a difference in our community.
Thank you to all of our local heroes. Your service does not go unnoticed!
