Surface water temperature is 87 degrees. This week the fishing was not as consistent as in previous weeks, as we have battled the SW winds, which have East Galveston Bay stirred up. One day we do well and the next day it is a struggle to find keepers. We are finding a few trout and reds in the intracoastal around structure, but it is very hit and miss. This past week we burned a good deal of gas and time taking the ride over by Galveston, as well as the reefs in the western portion of the bay.
We are utilizing Mirror Lure suspending hard baits, Swim Baits, and Tails with 1/8 oz heads in light colors. Our clients are still enjoying excellent success using Popping corks with a 2-to-3-foot leader above shrimp imitation lures, as well as Salt & Pepper Tails by WacAttack & Deadly Dudley.
The Topwater bite has been decent very early, so if you like throwing walking baits, now is a great time to get on the water and make it happen.
