Surface water temperatures are holding around 79 degrees. The big story this past week has been the wind — and plenty of it. Water clarity remains about average for East Galveston Bay west of the Stingaree, but conditions become noticeably murkier the farther east you move past Big Pasture Bayou.
With the strong winds, the majority of our success has come back in the marshes and protected back lake areas where we could find cleaner water and better conditions. Redfish action has been excellent along grass lines and around drains, while Trout have been holding over scattered shell.
Artificial presentations continue to produce well. We are still finding success using imitation shrimp lures and tails under popping corks with a 1-foot leader, which has triggered some of the most aggressive Redfish bites of the year. Deadly Dudley Rat Tails and WacAttack Flukes in lighter colors rigged on 1/4 oz jig heads have also been producing consistently. Over the last few days, the popping cork bite with artificials has been especially strong — a steady pop, slow reel, and pause retrieve has been key to generating strikes.
If we can help get you on the water enjoying the great outdoors on East Galveston Bay, give us a shout.
