Bolivar Peninsula’s Annual Golf Cart Poker Run Brings Out Large Crowds and Creative Carts

Under a canopy of warm and sunny skies, more than 450 registered participants rolled out in over 150 festively decorated golf carts for the Bolivar Peninsula Golf Cart Poker Run. The highly anticipated event kicked off bright and early as carts began lining up at José’s Restaurant starting at 7:30 a.m., setting the stage for a community tradition dedicated to supporting local schools and volunteer fire departments.

Creativity reached new heights this year. Highlights included a stunning tribute featuring three golf carts modeled after the Bolivar ferries, immediately followed by a cart with soaring seagulls, numerous patriotic displays celebrating the America 250 theme, a classic appearance by the Clampetts in their very own Beverly Hillbillies mobile, and even an impressive army tank.

After participants drew their first card at José’s Restaurant, the parade officially rolled out at 9:45 AM, taking to the beach for a scenic ride down the coast. The route guided players through a series of favorite local stops to build their winning poker hands, offering plenty of time to visit with friends and enjoy cold beverages along the way. After stopping at Tiki Beach Bar & Grill for card number two, participants made their way to The Eagles for a third card and then to the Nauti Beaver Hut for the fourth. The journey ultimately concluded at the finish line at Stingaree Restaurant, where participants drew their fifth and final card before diving into the live auction and awards ceremony.

Poker Run President Jeff Cunningham took the microphone to thank everyone for participating and warmly welcomed those who joined specifically for the lively auction. Highlighting the true spirit of the day, Cunningham reminded the crowd that all proceeds directly benefit local schools and local Volunteer Fire Departments.

The live auction featured a wide array of unique items, expertly driven by dual auctioneers Big Daddy Flanagan and Big Rich Courville. Following the bidding, awards were presented for the winning poker hand, the top three best-decorated carts, and the largest participating group. (see below)

Organizers extended a massive thanks to all the participants, volunteers, sponsors, host stops, and generous bidders who made the event an overwhelming success. As the festivities wrapped up, the community already has something new to look forward to: next year’s poker run has officially been scheduled for August 7, 2027.

While the final tally of funds raised is still being calculated, early estimates indicate this year’s event easily surpassed the average of the last three years. Participants and supporters are encouraged to stay tuned for the official fundraising announcement and upcoming check presentations to local schools and volunteer fire departments.
