A little bird told us that is if you want to see a lot of different bird species, then come join the Bolivar Peninsula Cultural Foundation for their (almost) annual birding trip to High Island. Our next event will be on Thursday, April 23, 2026 beginning at 4:00 PM. We are going to the Clint an Mary Frances Morse Field Station next door to the Boy Scout Woods Sanctuary for a talk given by Jim Ashcraft, who’s ornithological experience includes extensive fieldwork spanning diverse ecosystems from Canada through Texas and into Mexico and Northern Central America. Jim also has over 40 years in the educational system teaching students from high to college. We know you will find his talk very interesting and informative.
In the past we have met at the pump house in the Smith Oaks Sanctuary but there is a family of nesting owls in there this year and it’s off limits, so this year we are meeting at the new Clint and Mary Frances Morse Field Station at 2089 5th St. in High Island at 4:00 PM to check in and get some refreshments before enjoying Jim’s talk in a nice air conditioned building with bathrooms. We are excited about using this wonderful facility and the prospect of venturing out into the Boy Scout Woods Sanctuary to observe local and migrating bird afterwards.
The cost for this event is $10 for BPCF members and $15 for non-members which covers your admittance into the sanctuary and your refreshments. Contact Elinor Tinsley to get registered and pay in advance for a speedy check-in. We have added Zelle and Cash App to our cash, check and Venmo payments methods to make it easier for you. We are limited to 30 participants so get signed up soon. Go to the webpage for Boy Scout Woods Sanctuary and the one for the Clint and Mary Frances Morse Field Station to get more information about what to expect with our outing. Please read the attached flyer for all information and we hope to see you there.
