With all this dry hot weather, I’m trying to keep up with watering my plants. In fact, my husband informed me Sunday morning half the garden out front was flooded, and the driveway may be growing. I had forgotten to turn the sprinkler off Saturday night! Boy, did those plants look happy!
I went out on the back deck on Saturday morning to water the plants out there. When I was through, I noticed my little friend laying on the bottom of a table. She scared the bejabbers out of me and I tried to shoo her away. She wouldn’t budge.
I posted this pic on FB. I received so many helpful comments and tips on possums. Or, do you call them Opossums? My sister-in-law, the “animal expert,” said “It depends on what part of the country you’re from.” Of course, I didn’t question her knowledge, but then I had to look it up. LOL, I get it Nora!
Jeff sent a three-page document on the Advantages of a Possum and their important role in maintaining a healthy ecosystem through natural pest control, disease resistance, and other contributions that benefit the environment and human well-being.
Well, that did it – I informed the family we had a new pet to add to the menagerie and I put a bowl of water out there for her! My husband cautioned me to NOT LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN when I went out to water. “We’d have to call the ‘Animal Expert’ to come track her down.”
I was going to name her “Polly,” but then my husband said, “Polly want a cracker?” Well, she’s not a parrot, so I renamed her “Priscilla.”
I watched her all day Saturday, she slept all day on the bottom of that table. So cute, sometimes, she’d lay on her back with her little feet up in the air. I could see her breathing, her tummy rising and falling.
I suppose she went foraging for food Saturday night, she wasn’t there when we returned from church on Sunday morning. Maybe the rain chased her away.
Looks like we had only a bit of rain … we sure could use a good downpour.
I looked for her to return on Monday morning, I guess she found better accommodations elsewhere. Come on back Priscilla, we’ll leave the lights off for you!
