The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has officially designated State Highway 87 on Bolivar Peninsula as a hurricane evacuation route, providing residents a critical option for safe departure during major storm events. The new designation ensures enhanced preparedness and prioritizes safety for residents and visitors in vulnerable low-lying areas.
“As hurricane season approaches, it is important that the residents of the Bolivar Peninsula have a dedicated and safe system to move off the island, if needed. SH 87 from Crystal Beach to SH 124 will be a designated hurricane evacuation route moving forward,” said Thomas Allbritton, TxDOT Houston District Engineer.
