Things That Go Bump

Two whole weeks of spookiness, when is it going to let up? Last weekend was The Big Store Trunk or Treat, and it was a hit! With the impending threat of thunderstorms, Trunk or Treat began at 4pm, hoping to get everything in before the skies opened. Success! The costume contest, which takes the longest of any of their events, managed to finish and crown the winners, Dolly Parton (Elli) hit it outta the park, winning at The Big Store and at Port Bolivar. Our Ryker, whose Mom is one of our medics for Galveston County ESD, took second place in the age 9-16 range. The Lighthouse Krewe generously handed out to hot dogs to anybody and everybody.

This past weekend was Galveston County ESD’s First Annual Boo-Fest held at the Crystal Beach Fire Station. Thanks to Sharon McCurdy and Maria Jarvis for promoting the event and helping to spread the word. The Haunted House was a blast with fog and blood, and a lot of dead people. Melissa and her fellow medics, along with numerous volunteers dressed up to scare the bejeebers out of whomever ventured into the Haunted House. Crystal Beach, Port Bolivar and High Island Fire Departments joined in the fun by handing out candy to those brave souls who visited. The Motley Krewe was well-represented as well. We hope this will become an annual happening. Next year, we hope more will join in on the fun of handing out candy and treats to the public.

What blew in with November and the time change, a welcome cold front. I always say that Halloween brings in the coldest nights. The long sweltering heat blasts are over for a while thank goodness.

Fall, my favorite time of the year! The beaches are beautiful, and the water is clean and a lovely green. I was surprised to see several people still enjoying swimming in the friendly surf the other day. Burrrrrr!
