Is there anything she cannot do? Dr. Melanie Wallace has more talents than one can ever articulate. She is sister, wife, mother, grandmother, cellist, teacher, principal, chef, artist, party giver, actress, church class teacher, and provider of a life changing experience at the April 8, 2024 solar eclipse near her home. I am sure there is more, but Bolivar Peninsula folk remember her performing as Mother of Texas Jane Long. Melanie graced the boards for 7 years at the annual October Jane Long Festival. She has repeated the role at many other venues. Dr. Wallace also performed in numerous Way Off Broadway Ensemble dinner theater productions. To this list of accomplishments add Master Gardner, radio gardening specialist, and a clearly outstanding presentation to the Dallas Oak Cliff Garden Forum.
Reviews of her program, “Edible Gardening”, were glowing. Excerpts include, “Today the Dallas Forum meeting was a big HIT!!!! Melanie Wallace’s program was excellent.” Excerpts from Ovilla Garden Club’s Deborah Turner Kennedy’s fine article contained exuberant details such as, “A joyful and fun program on her home gardening. Tables were set with a coloring page, song book, calendar, colored pencils and bubbles. Homemade iced cookies in shapes and colors of vegetables were served. Best presentation at Oak Cliff Forum !!!!” Deborah apologized that she had no photos of the cookies because she had eaten them. The presentation closed to a well-deserved standing ovation.
So many people have benefited from the talents of this brilliant, lovely and loving person. Melanie is like our Texas’ heroine, the invincible Jane Long. She is indeed THE INVINCIBLE DR. MELANIE WALLACE!.
