Scarecrows Take Over at the Bolivar Escape Room

The Bolivar Peninsula got a little more festive last week thanks to a brand-new community tradition — the first-ever Scarecrow Contest, hosted at the Bolivar Escape Room.

The idea was brought to Bolivar by Leanne Comeaux, who was inspired by the world-famous Scarecrow Invasion held each year in Meaford, Ontario. Determined to give Bolivar its own fall flair, Comeaux partnered with the community to bring the concept to life.

A Community Effort

Scarecrows of all shapes and personalities lined the Escape Room lawn, created primarily by students at High Island School. Local organizations also joined in the fun, each crafting their own quirky and creative entries. From traditional straw-stuffed classics to modern spins, the scarecrows brought out plenty of smiles and photo opportunities.

Chamber Members Pick the Winners

The contest coincided with the Bolivar Peninsula Chamber of Commerce Member Mixer held last Wednesday. In the spirit of community, the winners weren’t chosen by a panel of judges but instead by a show of hands from Chamber members. It was all in fun, with plenty of laughter and encouragement for the students and community entries.

Looking Ahead

“This was just the beginning,” said Comeaux. “We hope to see this grow each year.” With its enthusiastic debut, Bolivar may have just started a fall tradition to rival even the grand events of Meaford.
