Hang On…Help is On the Way

February delinquent notices for unpaid 2025 property taxes will begin arriving in mailboxes this week.  Thanks to legislation passed several years ago, those unable to pay their taxes in full may sign up for a low penalty payment agreement with the tax assessor collector.  Additionally, this legislation enabled qualified seniors, disabled persons and disabled vets to pay 7% penalty and interest by March 2nd in order to reinstate the one-quarter installment payment option that would have expired February 2nd (dates extended due to legislative deadlines falling on a weekend).

For those already signed up for quarterly installments, the remaining three coupons and return envelopes will be mailed within the next 10 days.  The second installment must be postmarked by March 31st in order to be timely (third by June 1st and final one-fourth by July 31st) in order to be timely.

Property owners may pay in person at GCTO branches in Galveston, League City, Santa Fe and Texas City and in Friendswood Thursdays and Fridays and Crystal Beach the 3rd Tuesday of each month).  Yellow payment drop boxes are located full-time locations.  Payments are retrieved at 8:30 am daily (and stamped received the previous business day).  A black payment box is also located at the side driveway at Friendswood City Hall.

Payments may also be made online (www.galcotax.com) via electronic check ($0.50 fee) or credit/debit card (2.2% fee) or through Chase Bank’s Payment Processing vendor Paymentus via telephone at 1-800-420-1663.   If online banking is your preferred method of payment, expect a 3-5 day delay for paper check to be prepared and mailed to our office which could result in penalty and interest if processing is delayed.

For directions to offices and hours call (toll free) 1-877-766-2284.  Those with property tax questions should call the Property Tax Department directly at (409) 766-2481.  Email any GCTO Department at galcotax@galvestoncountytx.gov.
