There’s something special about the way we do things down here on the coast—when we celebrate, we do it like family. The Bolivar Peninsula Chamber of Commerce hit a huge milestone, marking 50 years of looking out for our local shops, neighbors, and friends. We all gathered over at Camp Margaritaville for an evening that wasn’t just about plaques and speeches; it was about honoring the folks who have kept our peninsula heart beating for generations.
Honoring Our Roots
You can’t talk about Bolivar without mentioning the pillars that have stood through every storm and sunrise. The Chamber took a moment to tip their hats to some real legends:
- Swedes Real Estate was honored for a staggering 75 years of service.
- Our friends at the FOE Crystal Beach Eagles celebrated 50 years of being a community hub.
- Marking 40 years of dedication were three names every local knows by heart: The Big Store, Cobb Real Estate, and Stingaree Restaurant.
These aren’t just businesses; they’re the grit and grace that make Bolivar what it is today.
The Folks Who Make Us Proud
The highlight of the night was recognizing the folks who go above and beyond. A huge congratulation goes out to:
- Citizen of the Year: Mark DeSantis
- Business of the Year: Nauti Beaver Hut
- Volunteer of the Year: Janie Mayfield
- Educator of the Year: Dr. David Walker
- Ambassador of the Year: Karen Jewell
- Rising Star Award: Kayla Umbach
Chamber President Colt Thomas also presented a special Community Excellence Award to Galveston County for their constant support of our little slice of heaven. We even had some distinguished guests like Terri Leo Wilson on hand to present formal certificates from the offices of Representative Wilson and Randy Weber.
Good Food and Great Company
The room was buzzing with stories and laughter, kept moving by our emcee Shauna Williams. We kicked things off with a cocktail hour hosted by Crystal Beach One10 Realty Group, followed by a spread from Fins Bar & Grill that was flat-out delicious—chicken and shrimp, glazed carrots, and enough dessert to keep everyone smiling.

The tables looked beautiful thanks to flowers from Island Liquor & The Big Store, and Shauna King with Ahh Shoot Photography was there to capture all the hugs and handshakes. We also want to give a big “thank you” to outgoing President Beth Boles-Terminella and directors Maria Cruz and Leanne Comeaux for their years of hard work.
A Community Effort
An evening like this doesn’t happen without a helping hand. A massive shout-out to our presenting sponsor, Cobb Real Estate, and our “party crew” sponsors: Lawn Sharks (Bar), Beachy Beatnik (Dessert), The Ships Wheel (Awards), and The Salty Mermaid for hosting the after-party! Supporting sponsors like Swedes, Island Liquor, Nathan Watkins, The Big Store, and Casago Bolivar Vacations really stepped up to make the 50th one for the history books.
As we looked around the room, it was clear that Bolivar isn’t just a place to live—it’s a place where we grow together. Here’s to the next 50 years of “Good Vibes” and coastal hospitality!
