Maintaining a 20+ acre public park is a monumental task, requiring dedication, specialized equipment, and countless hours of labor. This year-round obligation involves everything from weekly summertime mowing—a necessity in the lush Texas climate—to constant trimming and the meticulous upkeep of all machinery.
But Swedes Park, a community green space, is managed not by a large municipal crew, but entirely by volunteers.
This effort is a result of a strong partnership between the park’s owner, Texas Crab Festival Charities (TCFC), and the dedicated members of Eagles Aerie 3719. This committed group of Eagles has taken on the responsibility of keeping Swedes Park in tip-top condition, serving the community with skill and pride.

Leading this charge is TCFC Board Member Jim Denys, who guides the volunteer operations. Anyone driving past the park on Highway 87 can instantly see the care and pride this team invests in their work. The well-maintained facilities speak volumes about their commitment.
Swedes Park is the site of the annual Texas Crab Festival, drawing thousands of visitors each spring, and it also hosts numerous other community and individual events throughout the year. The success of these events, and the enjoyment of the park by local residents, relies on the sustained effort of these generous individuals.
