The annual Big Store’s Ghost on the Coast kicked off early this year to stay ahead of an incoming rainstorm, but the weather didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. Families, friends, and costumed characters of every kind filled the parking lot for a night of community fun, laughter, and plenty of Halloween excitement.
Local businesses and organizations once again stepped up to sponsor kids’ games, prizes, and treats, keeping the younger crowd entertained from start to finish. The best decorated Trunk-or-Treat competition brought out creative flair, and the always popular cake walk drew long lines The aroma of free hot dogs filled the air as families mingled and showed off their costumes.

Of course, the evening’s highlight was the costume contest, featuring more than 50 contestants who paraded before a panel of Wizard of Oz–themed judges. The judges had their work cut out for them, carefully deliberating before naming the winners. From tiny dragons to spooky ghouls, and superheroes to skeletons, the creativity and enthusiasm were unmatched.
A big thank you goes out to all who participated, volunteered, and helped make Ghost on the Coast another unforgettable Bolivar tradition. Congratulations to all the winners—and to everyone who made the night so frightfully fun!
Earlier in the day, the Halloween festivities began across the peninsula with the Kids Costume Contest at the VanZandt Memorial Cookoff in Port Bolivar, giving even more young goblins and ghosts a chance to shine.
