Back to School

Well Boys & Girls, before you know it, it’ll be time to go to bed early, get up early in the morning, eat a good breakfast and get ready to catch the ol’ school bus. I heard High Island begins August 5th and Galveston ISD begins August 11. League City & Friendswood schools begin August 13. You know, it happens to the best of us.

I know this because the Golf Cart Poker Run is next weekend. This year, all proceeds from the Poker Run will go to the flood victims in the hill country. Rightly so! Good news, I hear Texas First Bank is still providing some supplies and backpacks.

If you know me, I love this time of year mostly because it means “one more month of hot weather.” I happen to be a fan of Fall. I look forward to Halloween, that’s usually when we get our first cold front. Usually a time when we get some higher tides that may help to smooth out our beaches.

Funny thing happened the other day. A very irate 30-year-old came to the Crystal Beach Fire Station looking for the Justice of the Peace. A couple of the medics directed him next door to the courthouse annex. Needless to say, the fella didn’t say thanks – he was too angry. “I got popped for doing donuts on the beach!” He was being fined! Well, I’ll be darned!, Go Figure!

Unfortunately, September means the beginning of hurricane season. Maybe you’ll remember, last July we had our first hurricane, Beryl. Holy Cow! Never a fan of hurricanes, but hey, this is where we live. Sometimes, we get lucky, and our Louisiana neighbors don’t. I never wish a hurricane on anybody, they’re no fun.

Try to stay prepared, figure out an evacuation route. If we have to evacuate, pray it’s not on a Sunday! Have you seen the traffic on Sundays at check out time? Thanks to DPS for helping the traffic move through our three stop lights.

Let’s hope for the best for all the Gulf Coast and Atlantic, heck, all over the world!

Think good thoughts and remember:
School days, school days
Dear old Golden Rule days
‘Reading and ‘riting and ‘rithmetic
Taught to the tune of the hick’ry stick (ouch)
