The Rain Falls Softly …

Well, at least it fell! We can even see little puddles in the slough again. Those turtles must be delighted! I heard on the radio we’re expecting a bit of a cool front next week. We’ll see. I’ve quit believing the weather guy on channel 11 for sure.

Have you been shopping lately? The stores, like Hobby Lobby, have the Halloween stuff on one or two of the front isles, then Christmas – Yay! I’ve already bought more Christmas wrapping paper to add to the collection. Oh yeah, I ordered some cute little candle lights for the tree. Last year, I cut every little string, knot of string and lights off the artificial tree we’ve had for probably 10 years. Very tedious I’ll admit. I’m still finding bits of green wire and a light or two under the bed. Anyway, can’t wait to get the tree out on Thanksgiving weekend to start putting it together. My husband kids around that one of these years, I’ll leave the tree up all year. Watch out Mister!

I haven’t told you about Merry for a while. She just turned 9 months old. She’s 58 pounds now, approximately 75 percent of her adult weight, I think I calculated 77 pounds. She is going to be a good-sized girl. It is difficult to get too mad at her, what she has going for her is she’s so darned cute. The other day, she saw a cat in the yard. A big old ugly gray cat. She slowly cautiously walked up to the cat. Finally touched noses and the cat reached out with her ugly paw and slapped at Merry. “Yelp!” Poor girl, she thought the big ol’ ferrral thing would be friendly like the cats she made friends with at Summer Camp. Bless her heart! Why would she even guess this critter would slap her. Another lesson learned!

Golden Retriever

From time to time, when PawPaw lets her out in the morning after breakfast, they’ll see skunks in the yard. Merry is very cautious, thank goodness. She won’t even venture down the stairs if she sees/smells one.

Ruby, our Golden two Golden’s before, wasn’t so cautious. She learned the hard way! Then, we had to learn how to try to get the skunk smell away. Tomato juice, Skunk’s Away, numerous baths, Believe me, it doesn’t just go away, it has to wear away.

So folks, that’s about all I’ve got for now. Enjoy some cooler weather, bring your umbrella wherever you venture. We’ll visit again in a week.

Happy Trails!
