Under ideal “Chamber of Commerce” weather—featuring bright blue skies and delightfully pleasant temperatures—over 60 golfers gathered last Friday for the annual Bolivar Peninsula Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament. Designed to bring local business members together for a day of fun, friendship, and a welcome break from the routine workday, this year’s event delivered on every front.
The tournament brought out 15 business-sponsored teams, including two generous local businesses that invited area first responders to join in the friendly competition.
Morning festivities began with breakfast goodies, refreshments, and an energetic pre-game putting contest sponsored by Tia’s Ocean Grill. Golfers tested their skills against owner Rusty Wilson in a “closest-to-the-hole” challenge, with winners taking home gift certificates to the local favorite spot.
At 9:00, the four-person scramble kicked off with a shotgun start. Included with the traditional honors like long drive and closest-to-the-pin, players keep an eye on the ultimate prize: a shot at the $25,000 hole-in-one challenge. At the turn, players took a well-earned break to refuel with lunch before tackling the second nine.
Once the final scorecards were submitted, the entertainment continued on the #2 green with a unique liquor-bottle putting contest sponsored by Longhorn Liquor. Bottles of all sizes and values were scattered across the green, and for a small entry fee, players walked away with whatever bottle their putt struck—making for a lively and memorable highlight of the afternoon.
The event concluded with an awards presentation, starting with heartfelt thanks to the many sponsors and volunteers who made the day possible. Raffle tickets were drawn for exciting prizes, followed by the presentation of trophies and cash awards to the top teams and contest winners.
It was, by all accounts, a perfect day on the course. The Bolivar Peninsula Chamber of Commerce extends its gratitude to every golfer, sponsor, and volunteer who participated, and everyone is already looking forward to teeing off again next year!
