On Saturday, March 7, 2026, the Bay Vue Methodist Women and a host of other church and community volunteers hosted their annual bake sale. Each year the Methodist Church puts on a bake sale on one of the Saturdays of Spring Break, depending on which Saturday they think will garner the most business. Starting a month before the church begins soliciting for donations from within the church and the ladies exercise class that meets, and this year they reached out to the staff of Crenshaw Elementary and even put in a request on social media for donations. With 28 people from the church, 12 people from Crenshaw and one couple from the community, Ashley and Bart McHalffey, these bakers and sweet makers brought enough to fill up 5 – six foot tables.
The weather was watched carefully for several weeks to make the decision for an outside or an inside event and according to many church members, the Lord blessed us once again with great weather. The church prefers to have the event outside under the tents for visibility from the highway and have very rarely had to take it inside in all the many years they have been doing the bake sale.
Packaging, pricing and labeling all the items began Friday morning and extended well into the late afternoon and on Saturday a host of volunteers from the church set up the tents and tables and ferried all of the items out to the tents. With so many wonderful volunteers, we made quick work of the set up and were done before 9:00 and some customers began arriving even before then to make sure they got the special items they wanted before the official 10:00 AM starting time. They even had two show up on Friday, thinking the sale was that day (or did they) and we didn’t turn them down.
So many thanks you’s to give for another very successful bake sale that’s it hard to single out folks so we’ll thank all the bakers and sweet makers from Bay Vue Methodist Church, Crenshaw Elementary School and Ashley & Bart with the amazing peanut brittle, for making all the wonderful items for our bake sale. Thank you to all the volunteers that came out on Friday and Saturday to prep, set up, for, work the bake sale and tear down and clean up afterwards. A special thanks to Elaine Rollfing for creating 12 of her fabulous cakes to sell, thank you to Shirlyn Findlay who helped for hours on Friday afternoon, thanks for the wonderful new signing that was donated this year and thank you to Linda Elissalde for the great photos. It takes a village to bring this event off smoothly and our village came out in force to make it happen, but the biggest thanks we need to give is to our loyal and new customers who came out to buy our items and a special thanks to many of our generous donors who went way above and beyond in what they gave us to help us raise over $4,800 from the bake sale.
The proceeds from our sale go to the Bay Vue Methodist Women and a few of their ministries include, providing monthly teacher snacks and incentives for Crenshaw and High Island schools, a yearly teacher appreciation luncheon for both schools, special bags for children at Easter, Halloween and Christmas that are handed out at church and to Second Going for all the children that pass through there, stocking and maintaining a beach toy library box at Clara St., Hospice Care Team outerwear clothing drive for the last three years, VBS on the beach where 100 VBS bags are handed out on the beach each summer, Trunk or Treat booth at the Big Store, Samaritan Purse Christmas boxes and the Angel Tree Program for Christmas here on the peninsula. These are some on the many outreach programs they are involved in, along with many other special requests and special needs that arise. The bake sale is the women’s only fundraiser for the year so they truly appreciate all that is given to them. If you missed out on it, just watch the local Facebook pages before spring break next year and make sure you come out, and for our repeat customers, just keep doing what you do.
