Merry’s Homecoming!

As I told you, last Tuesday, as you were reading Crystal Beach Local News, we were on our way to Tishomingo, Oklahoma, to pick up our little Merry Girl. We had reservations at a quaint little boutique hotel in Tishomingo, a little three-room place on Main Street! As we arrived and parked out front, we strolled up to the door, locked. What!! Well, it seems they should have sent me a code to get in the door. Much finagling with texts, we found the code, but it didn’t work on the front door or the back. This fella parks out front and uses his code to get in and lets us in. Thank goodness! We tried the code on our door and Voila, it worked. Many phone calls to get the proprietor of the hotel to change the code so we could leave our room and get back in. Right across Main Street, a fancy (Not) lounge with pool tables, we ordered Old Fashioneds (smoked). Quite a “local” establishment, we met several, they’ve lived in “Tish” all their lives. Pretty little town. We had time to wander a bit the next morning before going to pick up Merry at the breeders house a mile away.

When we got there, I texted Robin to let her know we were there. Magically, the gate opens! When we drove up the drive, Robin was standing there holding Traveler, the Dad, and Reece, the Mom, was loose. The minute we got out of the car, Reece, took a shine to me and, I swear, she was going to knock me down before too long. Robin finally put the parents in the gated patio.

We went in the house and Merry was the only one wandering around. Little Merry with the hot pink rickrack collar Robin put on her when she was born.  She came to us immediately and that’s when I lost it! What a doll baby!  We signed all the paperwork and talked business while we cuddled with Merry. We went to see the siblings, 6 more girls and 4 boys to let Merry say goodbye to her brothers & sisters, all of whom would be adopted and picked up by Friday. Robin is keeping one of the girls. She had a struggle deciding to give us Merry or the other one. We’re so happy we got “Hot Pink!”

Our journey home went rather smoothly, Many more stops with a little puppy, a potty here and a potty there. There was a bit of car sickness. After all, it was a 7-hour trip to get home. Once home, we carried her upstairs and she plopped in the hallway to get a much-needed nap while we proceeded to roll up the rugs (a decision we made on the way home). It reminded me of the time we brought the third child home from the hospital and realized we hadn’t even set up the crib yet. Leigh & Matthew and I sat on the couch holding Kelly while Daddy got the crib ready.

Merry didn’t want to eat that night, I immediately began to worry, I texted Robin, who suggested we try some canned food, “did I have any?” Of course not! It was about 8:40pm, The Big Store would close in about 20 minutes. PawPaw left immediately, and wonders or all wonders, found Purina Pro Plan for puppies. She ate maybe a teaspoon.

It was a fretful night for us, but Merry slept soundly in her kennel until we woke her at 4 am Thursday morning. I mixed up her regular food with some warm water and Man oh Man, was she hungry!?! Here it is Tuesday morning; she hasn’t missed a meal yet! She’s gained 1.5 pounds!

PawPaw took her to the beach the next morning, just like he used to do with Maezy. They’re bonding!

So far, she’s met our neighbor Rod. PawPaw took her over to meet Dennis, Moody and Robert. Next trip to the beach, she met Gary, the guy who sells seashell jewelry on the beach. When I got to work, three medics rushed into my office – “where is she,” they demanded. So many more folks to meet. Yesterday, she met our neighbors Karen, Jim, and Betty Ann.

She’s a rambunctious toddler (8 weeks old). We’re working on the “kennel thing,” she knows her name and comes when called, she loves to chew on shoes and fingers, her toys have doubled if not tripled since she got home.

I think she’s a keeper, we fell in love with her at first sight!
