
Lee Crowder began his career as the Beach and Drainage Manager with the County in 2004 under County Commissioner Pct #1 Eddie Barr. In 2008, he directed and operated the disaster recovery on the Bolivar Peninsula post Hurricane Ike with Commissioner Pct #1, Patrick Doyle. In 2015 Lee was promoted to the Road Administrator while Commissioner Ryan Dennard was in office. As the RA, Lee managed the Road and Bridge, Fleet Services, Texas City La Marque Hurricane Protection Levee, and Flood Control Departments. Lee played pivotal roles during the County’s response to Hurricane Harvey by directing high water rescues, delivering supplies to relief shelters, and removal of storm debris post storm. He has worked diligently to identify and manage projects funded by the Coastal Erosion Planning Response Act and Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act to protect and manage to Bolivar shoreline.
Lee Crowder is a proud member of the Fighting Texas Aggie Class of 1993, graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science; He has received the 2013 Honorary Citizen of the Year from Bolivar Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, and the Patriotic Employer Award from the Office of the United States Secretary of Defense in 2016; R. Lee Crowder also served on the Board of Directors for the Texas Association of County Engineers and Road Administrators, holding positions of Secretary-Treasurer, VP, and President.
Lee Crowder consistently displayed the highest level of dedication to his superiors, peers, and subordinates alike. During his time as Road Administrator, he worked to modernize the Department’s functions, and oversaw the design, and construction of the new Galveston County Maintenance Facility. His expertise, humor, friendship, and commitment will be sorely missed by those of us who had the privilege to work for and alongside him and by those who had the pleasure of interacting with him.
