As the World Turns

Of course there’s gardening, but y’all must expect that out of me by now. Don’t worry, when I got home from work on Monday, the first thing I did was find an empty garbage can and I started cutting stuff back in my garden. After about 30 minutes, I’d trimmed the knock-out roses that came up out of nowhere, and the runaway sweet potato vines that were threatening to travel on up the stairs to the house. They look really pretty, but once people begin stepping on them, they’ve gotta go! Back to the knock-out roses, if I’d planted them myself, I sure would’ve chosen a nicer color than the dark red they came with. Maybe a bird dropped a knock-out seed over my garden, I’m not a fan …

Things are looking a little bit different around town lately. First of all, it’s obvious school has started. Not all schools, just High Island that I know of. I think most of the others will start this week. I’ll bet this past weekend will be one of the last big tourist ones with practically every other school starting this week. I know Crenshaw and all the other Galveston County schools begin Tuesday or Wednesday.

We had our Littles with us most of the week last week, from Wednesday through Sunday. We had a blast with them and it’s obvious, they’re beach boys from the heart. The first thing they wanted to do was go to the washout. Well, we did, but there wasn’t any water in it. But, speaking of the water, BEAUTIFUL! And so clear. The twins are 8 and their big brother is 11. To be expected, they’re all experts at driving the golf cart, with an adult on board or course. They’re pretty darn good at paddling kayaks too! They know they have to put on a life jacket before going out, no arguing there. The three go out together and take turns doing flips off the side. Yes, sometimes the kayak flips over, but they’re pretty good at up righting it and climbing back in. They’re great in the water, good swimmers and I’m proud they love it so. Even a little jellyfish sting doesn’t thwart their desire to get back in.

Saturday night we took them out to the beach to shoot some fireworks. Geez, did you see that orange moon!!

We had a nice breakfast at G’s before they left on Sunday, I haven’t been to G’s in awhile and I was quite surprised at how nice it looks and the breakfast taco is to die for!

My husband and I went on over to Galveston to shop at Home Depot. We have a project going on and we needed stuff for that, nothing we could get at the store, need to order online, so that was a fruitless trip. But we did stop at PetSmart over there by Home Depot for some fish supplies. I’m on my second Beta now, Buddy One “joined the circus.” I obviously don’t have a good track record with cleaning the aquarium. I’ve bought all sorts of products to improve the water quality when I clean the tank. It’s just two gallons, but I’ll be darned if I can get it right. We ran into the most knowledgeable person ever at PetSmart, Victoria. Victoria knows her “fish stuff” and is very matter-of-fact (speaks our language). We were reassured everything would be okay and Buddy Two would adapt and be just fine. I bought an organic plant for the aquarium, took out the plastic one and I’ve ordered a heater to make Buddy Two more comfy. I wake up every morning worrying if he’s still swimming. Just keep swimming I beg. Sometimes, most of the time, I put my hand down in his tank to nudge him. I think he tried to bite me the other day.

Oh, here I go. Bet you’re happy I have another pastime now other than gardening. Just wait ‘ til I start with the birds, Ross & Rachel.

This isn’t what I was going to talk about at all, so I just want to say, don’t believe everything you read on social media, especially Facebook. Sadly, there’s some really serious stuff posted out there that just isn’t true. I’m talking about the Camp Mystic news. No, they haven’t found Cile yet. God bless Cile and her family and all those rescuers trying to find the last three.
