Pastor Valerie Hudson is a fine preacher and also a very talented musician. She plays several instruments, composes Christian music and leads Bay Vue Methodist choir and chime players. She planned a special service to honor mothers this year. Her sermon detailed contributions of biblical mothers. Chosen music added to this notable Sunday.
Members Sandi Covington and Jo Evans provided flowers for attendees. Red carnations honored mothers still living, and white carnations were in remembrance of mothers passed away. Pastor Hudson’s birthday was on May 12 so the congregation sang a rousing “Happy Birthday” to her. Then she was presented with gifts of flowers and a bag filled with birthday cards from her congregation.
A most pleasant surprise was a visit from former member Bay Vue member Bettie Rankin. When asked what she would like for a Mother’s Day gift, Bettie, who now resides in Baytown, Texas, replied that she wanted to visit her former church. Mrs. Rankin was escorted by her son, grandson and his wife. Old and new members were delighted to visit with this charming women who had been a very active member of Bay Vue Methodist.
What a delightful Mother’s Day it was indeed! One of the reasons was the appearance of a unique and talented group – The Men For All Seasons. These hardy fellows played the chimes accompanying an original song about mothers. It was set to the tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”. The guys hit every note right on time. Of course they received loud applause and well deserved compliments.
Thanking mothers for their love, help and unselfish devotion was the theme of the service. Participants, members and guests at Bay Vue Methodist definitely celebrated a HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!
