We’re Down to the Wire

Right? It’s gonna happen, one way or another. Hopefully, we’ve had all the rain we need for a while!

Just when I was tooting my horn about being full, I’m through, we have all the vendors we can fit. Then, along come the cancellations. It’s inevitable. Most of the time, it’s” a “death in the family.” It happens! My heart goes out to these folks. Like I’ve told you, they’re like family.

Then, a few trickles in. I think right now, we have 5 empty spaces. You never know what might happen this next week, we’re less than a week out, but vendors still hope and pray and they’ll try again to get in. I can’t tell you how many times we changed the site layout, and I’ve changed names on packets.

Crab Festival isn’t the only thing going on in our lives. There’s still birthdays, there’s a wedding coming up, and then there’s work. Speaking of, my boss sent me a task with a Wednesday deadline. Oh D’D’D’Dear! I got this on Saturday, tossed and turned all night and woke up early on Sunday to begin. Wouldn’t you know it, we don’t have all the details, won’t know until Monday.

I’ve prepared for company (family), who come to help with Festival details each year. Made up all the beds. Shopped on Saturday for stuff we can eat, maybe prepare when we get home at midnight each night. No offense vendors, but we can’t eat Festival food all 3 nights. I’m going to put together a chicken spaghetti casserole for one night, Ham Sliders for another, and an Angelo’s lasagna for another.

Knowing how neglected home will be, I’ve been watering all the flower beds, cleaned and refilled all the hummingbird feeders, and I gave Buddy his first bath, figuratively speaking. This is the first time I’ve cleaned his aquarium. He didn’t care for being netted and put in another makeshift bowl. He kind of just hung on top of the water waiting for me to get his home clean again. It was a little tedious cleaning all the gravel and the tree, reconditioning the water and placing all the filtering system and LED back. But he sure did look happy when I netted him once again and placed him back home.

Okay, I’m going to go work on Silent Auction stuff. Donna, Goat Nanny, and I are going to meet up Friday morning and gather all the promised vendor donations. We hope to have everything laid out by the time the festival opens at 4pm.

We have the greatest vendors, and they’ve generously donated some lovely items. Y’all come on over and say Hi to Donna and me. The Silent Auction will end at 8pm on Saturday. That leaves all day Sunday for folks to come back to nab the stuff they bid the highest on.

All proceeds go to the Texas Crab Festival Charities!
