Baseball Madness!

Woke up early on a Saturday – What’s wrong with this statement??

I wake up early every other day of the week for work, play a couple of my games, then it’s off to the showers to make it to work by 8am Monday thru Friday. Don’t get me wrong, and don’t let me fool you. Those of you who know me know how much I love my job. Love to keep busy and Lord knows, this job is challenging.

Saturdays are special and this one in particular. I made the 7:30 ferry and barely made it to Pierce’s baseball game in Friendswood by the 2nd inning. No time for breakfast, so I had a small popcorn and orange Gatorade from the concession stand.

Oh, that boy! Every time up to bat, he gets a hit. The last inning, the Orioles were down by 3. When Pierce came up for bat, he hit a runner in and came in himself, bringing the score up to 11 to 10, the Pirates won. But oh, what a nail biter!

We had a bit of a lull waiting for Rigg’s game. Fisher was delivered back to the ballpark after his swimming practice. He did the butterfly and free style back and forth across the pool. Did it wear him out? Not a chance!

Riggs’ game consists of a coach pitching to the team. I didn’t really understand the concept, but each boy got 4 pitches. I could hear the coach/pitcher tell the boys “This is your last pitch, you have to swing.” And swing they did. Every boy hit the darned ball FAR! Sometimes Riggs was “the pitcher.” Meaning he would stand by the coach and when the coach pitched the ball to the batter, Riggs would act as the pitcher there on the mound ready to throw to first, home, or wherever.

Here again, every up to bat, a hit! And at the age of 8 years old, these kids know where the play is, and their throwing is spot on!

Needless to say, after an afternoon outdoors and all the walking, I wasn’t in great shape to do a lot of shopping, but I had plenty to do, so I trudged on. Hobby Lobby, Dillard’s, & a quick stop at Kroger before joining the boys back home.

On Sunday morning, we found a little breakfast place up the street, The Pelican. Real healthy meals for those boys, Yep! French toast for Pierce, pancakes for Riggs & Fisher. PawPaw and I had our usual eggs, toast & crispy bacon. Fuel for all and we were ready for action when we got back home. Parents were expected home from Oklahoma in less than an hour.

I went off to finish my shopping, a trip to Michael’s for picture frames and a real exciting trip to PetSmart. Here he is, we have a new pet! Billy’s and Bean’s new cousin, Buddy! I think he likes his new home. He seemed happy to see me when I got home from work today.

Maezy was happy to see me too, I think. She lifted her head up from her nap for a second to acknowledge my presence.

Happy trails y’all!
