Surface water temperature 69 degrees. The water clarity is about average for East Galveston Bay. The Trout are becoming more active and we are still catching them in deeper holes, as well as out on the flats over shell. Active baitfish / signs of life are still critical, so pay attention to your surroundings. The redfish bite was not as good for us this week, around drains and in the very shallow water areas back in the marsh, although we did land a couple of giants. We are still using Imitation shirmp lures & tails under popping corks, with a 1 foot leader to trigger bites, as well as Deadley Dudley Rat Tails, and WacAttack Flukes, in light colors with 1/4 oz jig heads.
The last few days on the flats we have enjoyed most of our success on the Popping Cork with artificial, using a pop and slow reel 4 cranks & pause, triggering the most strikes. Over the deeper cuts the jig head & tails haver performed better for our anglers. Fishing should continue to improve as the fish become more active with the warmer temperatures and longer days. Hit us up if we can help get you on the water enjoying the great outdoors on East Galveston Bay.
