Okay, Okay, this is one Beach Bum’s opinion, don’t shoot the messenger.
I’ll have to admit, my latest jigsaw puzzle may have taken front row to the TV set. I forced myself along about the 2nd quarter to start paying attention to the game, and especially the ads. I have a couple of favorites; they happened to be a couple that I actually understood or could relate to.
Loved Seal in the Mountain Dew commercial, A Kiss from a Lime. You’re right, the reason I could relate was because A Kiss from a Rose came out in 1994, admittedly, I was just a mere child then.
Moving on to something more my speed, the Weather Tech ad, Grannies are Born to Be Wild. Grannies break dancing and flashing the Bingo caller when she bingo’d. Sorry, just reminded me of Sunday’s at the Eagles.
PickleBall hustlers with William Defoe & Catherine O’Hara in the Michelob Ultra commercial. We recognized William, but only dawned on me a while later “hey, that’s the Mom from Home Alone.” KEVIN! As I read later, the two were in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice which came out in 2024. Come to think of it, I don’t think I’ve ever seen just one Beetlejuice.
Maybe my most favorite was Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal in the Mayonnaise commercial recreating When Harry Met Sally. They’re in the same restaurant and Sally decides to use the mayo on her sandwich. She has the same reaction we all remember. “I’ll have what she’s having!”
Then, on a serious note, I always have one that hits me, Somebody! Every kid can be somebody if they have somebody to show them the way, I loved all the different kids, must’ve taken awhile to film that many. Oh, the meaning, building confidence!
Forgot to mention Half Time with Kendrick Lamar. Who? As my Mom used to tell me, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all! ”And, that’s all I’ve got to say about that … Forrest Gump
Now, for the game, what can I tell you?? I didn’t have a preference; I didn’t have a favorite team. What do I know about football anyway? I’ll have to admit, when my husband said he was for the Eagles, I immediately decided I would be for the Chiefs. I do know a couple of players on the Chiefs, Mahomes and Mr. Travis Swift, I mean Travis Kelce. I was surprised to read that Taylor was booed by the New Orleans crowd. I guess I wasn’t all that interested in finding out why. Poor thing. I did read that she took it quite professionally, proud of that young lady.
So, 3rd quarter, and I was feeling really bad for the Chiefs. Thank goodness they finally scored in the 4th quarter. Feeling hopeful and really tired, I had already taken a 2-minute snooze, we decided we had had enough fun for one night, so we decided it was time to go to bed.
This morning, I found out Kansas City had scored again. Final 40-22 Philadelphia – 2025 Super Bowl.
Hope you all enjoyed the show, I mean game.
When does baseball season start?

February 11, 2025 at 8:55 amHi, Ms. Georgia,
No it wasn’t much of a game, but I’m thrilled the Eagles blew out the Chiefs. Probably the only reason for the last 5 minutes of Chiefs’ scores was the Eagles defense feeling generous!
Regarding the solid booing Taylor Swift received……I, along with many others, am glorying in major Chief Fatigue. I’m tired of hearing and seeing Mahomes, Kelce, Swift. While a three-peat would be a major accomplishment for any team, I believe most folks are tired of the Chiefs domination and ready for more thrillingly REAL games.
I totally agree with you about much of the rest including the half-time show. Being a Louisiana gal, I was happy with Lauren Daigle and Trombone Shorty’s rendition of America the Beautiful and Jon Baptiste’s national anthem had a jazzy swing that wasn’t bad. I didn’t watch the half-time show as they’ve been so raunchy in recent years. (As you can probably tell, I’m a “woman of a certain age!)
Thanks again for your wonderful column….I enjoy it each week!
