Boom Boom

As we expected, the Booms are pounding all around us! Our Granddog, Knight, is not a fan. He keeps walking around and staring at us to make them quit! Thank goodness we got our power restored. What a quick turnaround! A tornado hits on Saturday somewhere near us, like right down the street – I-24 going toward Winnie. Knocked out those beautiful poles Entergy installed. Hit them, broke them up and pulled them out of the ground like toothpicks.

Well, there goes the electricity over the entire peninsula. Our little partial-house generator came to the rescue again. This time, the temps weren’t terribly hot like we usually experience. I must admit, I was afraid we may have to crank up the heater, but the weather remained rather mild.

We had no idea what was in store though as far as longevity. The pictures we saw looked pretty ominous. How on earth were they going to set everything back up and get the peninsula back in power again?

We were concerned about our propane, thinking we could possibly make it until Tuesday afternoon on what we had left of fuel. Also, the fact that Hill Butane couldn’t possibly service us. How on earth were they going to get to the peninsula from Winnie?

By chance, I happened to look out the back window and saw the Hill truck at our neighbor’s house. How on earth did they get over here? My husband walked over to the neighbor’s. The Hill guy asked if we were customers. Yes indeed! Lo and behold if he didn’t come on over to fill us up. Hill had come from College Station and just happened to stop to see if WE, The Peninsula, needed assistance. What a Company! After filling us up, he had 26 more customers to tend to over here.

With a full tank of propane, we felt reassured we’d survive. Reports began coming in from Entergy that we’d be up and running by 10pm on Monday night. About 4 hours later, the restoration time had come down to noon on Monday. Hallelujah!

I went to work on Monday like normal, but I asked my husband to call me when the power came back on so I could come home to start a load of laundry. Sitting through the weekend with no power was torture, knowing I had at least 3 loads of wash to do. Man, oh man, how we take this Power-Thing for granted. How spoiled are we!?! You’d never know we suffered a tornado of all things.

All things back to normal. Here we are tonight, going to mass on New Year’s Eve thinking we’d just come home to watch another episode of whatever series we could catch up on.

When we got home, there was a text from Dennis! They were back in town, down at the beach with a fire started. I hurried to write my story so we could bundle up and go meet up with Dennis & Elaine. They always bring the fun gangs, Moody & Marsha, Tom & Mary Ann, David & Diana, all the Crystal Canal’s. What a pleasure to be included!

Hope you have your black-eyed peas and cabbage prepared. We need all the luck we can get.
Happy New Year to you all!
