Happy Birthday Bolivar Point Lighthouse!

This past Saturday, the Bolivar Point Lighthouse shone brightly in celebration of its remarkable history and ongoing restoration. Hosted by the Bolivar Point Lighthouse Foundation, the community gathered on the lighthouse grounds to honor this iconic structure, freshly painted in its original black-and-white stripes—a stunning display of progress. Visitors enjoyed the rare opportunity to walk around the grounds, capture photographs, and even step inside the lighthouse’s base. At 1:30 PM, the festivities reached their peak with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil a beautifully restored door—a replica of the original installed 152 years ago.

Amy Maxwell Chase, Executive Director of the Lighthouse Foundation, introduced Board members, visiting dignitaries, and the generous sponsors whose contributions have been vital to the restoration. State Representative Terri Leo Wilson presented a special recognition certificate from the State of Texas, and Doug McLean, the skilled artisan behind the restoration, shared insights about the meticulous work involved in bringing the historic door back to life.

Adding a touch of history to the event, special guests John Brooks Tickle and Randy Tickle—descendants of J.P. Brooks, Assistant Lighthouse Keeper during the devastating 1915 hurricane—cut the ribbon on the newly restored door.

While the lighthouse continues to make strides in its restoration, the ultimate goal is to restore and replace the crown, a project still in need of support. Fundraising efforts remain ongoing to ensure this historic landmark continues to stand as a beacon of resilience and beauty.

The celebration continued with refreshments, snacks, and, of course, birthday cake, as the Bolivar Point Lighthouse marked another year in its storied legacy.
